Anxiety can feel overwhelming.
It can come out of nowhere—your heart racing, your thoughts spiralling, a sudden sense that something isn’t right.
( Many people describe an anxiety attack as a sense of 'impending doom')-or it may be a constant background feeling, quietly draining your energy and making even simple things feel harder than they should.
If you’ve ever felt stuck in that cycle… you’re not alone. Anxiety is extremely common and in fact, one of the most common reasons why people seek help from hypnotherapists.
There is a way to calm anxiety—naturally and gently
without trying to force yourself to 'pull yourself together'.
Anxiety doesn’t begin in the logical part of your mind.
If it were that simple- you could just tell yourself that 'there is nothing to be anxious about' and that would be an end to it!
It starts deeper—in the unconscious patterns that are trying to protect you, even when there’s no real danger.
Here's the interesting thing- your unconscious mind isn't LOGICAL- it is PURPOSEFUL... and its' purpose is to protect you.
Sometimes, however- it can go into overdrive and start sending out alerts when there actually isn't anything to be concerned about.
e.g. You develop a phobia around something that is harmless.
You know that this thing is of no threat to you, but you just have an inexplicable sense of unease. ( 'buttons' for example.)

If you think of your mind like a complex series of wiring... sometimes the wires can become twisted and form connections that are unhelpful-which then cause feelings and behaviours, which are not helpful. (anxiety, avoidance etc.)
Once you understand this, something shifts.
Instead of fighting anxiety, you can begin to work with your mind… calming your body, slowing your thoughts, and gradually returning to a place of control.
What Is Anxiety?
Anxiety is your mind and body trying to protect you!
It’s driven by your unconscious mind—constantly scanning for danger, even when there isn’t any real threat. This creates the 'fight or flight' response, which includes:
Increased heart rate
Shallow breathing
Racing thoughts
A sense of losing control
The problem is… your mind doesn’t always know the difference between a real danger and a perceived one.
So it reacts anyway.
Why Anxiety Feels So Hard to Switch Off
Many people try to 'think their way out' of anxiety.
But as already mentioned, anxiety doesn’t come from the logical part of your mind—it comes from the unconscious.
That’s why:
Positive thinking only works temporarily
Distraction doesn’t fully resolve it
It often comes back stronger
To create lasting change, we need to work with the unconscious mind—not against it.
A Simple Technique to Calm Anxiety in the Moment
Try this now:
Gently bring your attention to your breath
Breathe in slowly for a count of 4
Hold for 2
Breathe out slowly for 6
As you breathe out, imagine releasing tension from your body.
Do this for just a few minutes, and you may notice:
Your body beginning to soften
Your thoughts slowing down
A small sense of calm returning
This works because you’re signalling safety to your nervous system.
Why Hypnosis Can Be So Powerful for Anxiety
Hypnosis works by guiding you into a deeply relaxed state—where your unconscious mind becomes more open to positive suggestion.
In this state, you can begin to:
Rewire anxious thought patterns
Feel calmer automatically
Build a stronger sense of inner control
Reduce panic responses over time
Rather than just managing anxiety… you’re gently retraining your mind’s response to it.
